The march leads of from the top of Johnston Terrace at midday – marching down the Royal Mile and then up to the Pleasance. The rally will take place indoors in the Pleasance theatre – our speakers include: Dave Moxham (Deputy General Secretary of the STUC), A.L. Kennedy (author, performer and anti-war campaigner), Jane McAlevey (activist and union organiser from the United States) and Alison Gilmour active in the UCU pensions dispute.

The rally after the march includes speakers, a film and musicians. One of those singing is Penny Stone – the video is of her singing at the Violence of Austerity event last year.

A chance to get involved – the organising group for the May Day 2018 events meets 7pm at the Epworth Hall, Nicolson Square on Monday 26th February.
The 2018 Edinburgh and Lothians May Day March will be held on Saturday 5th May – make sure it’s in your diary. There will be linked events taking place from the 1st May through to the evening of the 5th May – watch this space for announcements and news.

May Day Social on May 6th at McSorley’s (formerly Malone’s) Forrest Road Edinburgh. The event will start immediately following the May Day Rally at the Parliament. A socialist social with great music from The Wakes, Calum Baird, Kevin Gore and Bobby Nicholson. This is a free event thanks to the contributions from UNISON Lothian Health Branch, CWU Scotland No2 Branch and RMT Regional.

The May Day organising committee is planning another booklet for the 2017 May Day events.
